New school on the Myanmar/Bangladesh border
Today we opened a school on No Man's Land. We did so to meet the needs of over 2000 school-age children in Taung Pyo.
It is our hope that our children will forget the things that happened in Myanmar. However, a child will never forget his or her school life. Back in Myanmar, our children were deprived of educational opportunities. In these uncertain times when we are being asked to go back to Myanmar, we would like to appeal to all concerned that they do not endanger our children again, that they ensure that Myanmar restores full rights to Rohingya and affords us the protection that goes with being full citizens of Myanmar.
This school named, J H School, stands for values of inclusiveness and against discrimination and persecution. We want our children to receive an education so that they can be productive people and citizens, living in peace and with dignity in Myanmar.
